The Best Pop Goals for Grass Roots

Our tried and tested selection of pop up goals

We are not all blessed with the facilities of the top clubs and some of us have to make do with a patch of ground in the local park.

Access to temporary goals can enhance a training session back adding a target for players or just just provide them the chance for that small sided game that they all seem to want!

Having spent years fighting with all sorts of pop up and temporary goals I have limited my exposure to these following goals.

Whether it is for a small sided game or to add an objective for a session, here are my favourite pop up goals.

The Best Pop up Football Goals

Best Overall

Having spent more time trying to twist those bloody figure of 8 wire pop up goals than coaching, I took the plunge and purchased two of these. They are a breeze to set up and can take a battering. 3 years in and they are still going strong!

  • Pros – Very sturdy and easy to setup.
  • Cons – Pricey and heavy.

Best pop up goals for 5 aside

These goals from Quickplay are the best by far goals if you need a larger or 5 A-Side goal. Easy to erect and collapse and can take a battering.

  • Pros – Cheaper, good size and collapse into a small bag.
  • Cons – Bit flimsy and ideally need to be pegged.

Best Pop Up for 7 Aside

If you need something a bit more permanent or a regulation 7 a-side goal, then this one from Forza is the standard. Ideally with help from an assistant or parent (ha!) then they are quick to install and collapse.

  • Pros – Good price and easy to store.
  • Cons – Can suffer the “sag” in the middle like all the temporary goals.

Best for Space

Now I hate these goals but many others use them. It might just be me and my lack of patience but I can not get my head around the figure of 8 twist to put them away! But they are cheap and a LOT easier to carry around.

  • Pros – Cheap, Light
  • Cons – SUCH a pain to put away.
