The Best Equipment

Our tried and tested selection of equipment

On top of your standard cones, volcano cones, you should also have a set of flat cones.

These are best for marking out areas, rather than creating obstacles, such as goal areas or breaking the pitch up into different areas and you do not want the ball’s trajectory to be affected by cones.

Lot’s of flat cone packs come in simple yellow or white, which while good to have, I find that multiple coloured flats give you the option of creating more variations. One way I use the colours is in traffic light fitness drills, where they run to which ever colour I call out.

Here are the 3 different types of flat cones that I have in my coaches bag.

The Best Flat Cones

Best Overall

These Forza flats are built to last. Thick and heavy they are no blowing away in the wind or easily move by players.

The different colours gives you options to add to your sessions.

  • Pros – Well made, different colours.
  • Cons – Heavy, the raised writing can effect travel and you only get 2 of each colour so not great for marking goal areas etc.

Best cones for fitness drills

On top of the Forza large flats, I have a set of mini flats. These I use mainly for fitness sessions where players have different targets. I find “run to blue” better than “run to second line of cones”

  • Pros – Lots of variations, small.
  • Cons- Pricey and only 4 of each colour.

Best for

Precision flats are my go to if I need to mark out large areas quickly and do not need to worry about colours etc. Much cheaper that the rubber flats but this is reflected in the quality and weight is an issue.

  • Pros – Cheap
  • Cons – Light weight and can move.
